RE: Why don't slide-out toppers have a drain hole?

Those awnings are not for water, but are for debris and shade. If you bother to ever read the directions or paperwork on them.......... I'm not sure I totally agree with that.... Mine owner's manual says it is to keep off the "elements" and what "mother nature" has to offer, both of which would include RAIN.... It also talks about keeping mold and mildew from from forming. IMHO I think you are totally defeating the purpose of a topper if you cut a whole in it. Do you really want water (with a little dirt, mold, leaves and whatever else) on top of your slide when you bring it in, only to have it roll off on the carpet after the first corner? Just a thought....

RE: Replacing Slide Topper Material Only

Consider this - Go to a marine shop that makes mooring covers for boats and bimini tops for boats. Take your old one(s) in so they have the correct dimensions and they will pull the lines out of the ends of the old and sew them into the new. The material they use is lifetime guaranteed and you have numerous colors to choose from. It was a LOT cheaper then buying them through CW or A&E and ten times the quality... I had the toppers replaced on my last rig and when I got rid of it they still look brand new, but they were 5+ years old (IN ARIZONA)!!! Most marine shops will NOT do the install, but it was a piece of cake to do myself...

RE: Tucson to Phoenix to Vegas to I-15 to Canada

Welcome! Couple thoughts for you - Don't get on US60 off I-17. That will take you through a lot of stop and go traffic all the way out of town. Instead take I-10 west from Tucson to I-17 north towards Flagstaff, then exit at SR74 west which will take you to US60, which will take you to US93 (Wickenburg). But it will keep you and your big rig on a freeway and circumvent some in town traffic. It is MUCH quicker and a nicer route. Also, check this website and make sure that there are no freeway closures that day. It is very common that on the weekends they close different sections of the freeways for construction or repairs. This website will list any and all closures so you can plan an alternate route. http://www.dot.state.az.us/CCPartnerships/News/Closures/index.asp Good luck, have a safe trip, and let me know if you have any questions. I'm a native and know this town like the back of my hand....

RE: Buy Atwood electric tongue jack?

I've got it on my flat bed trailer and my enclosed. I really like them and have had NO problems. Watch your battery and make sure if it is sitting that you have a "Battery Tender" type charger on it to save the battery.....

RE: A&E Slide Topper Fabric Replacement...

I haven't looked yet to see what's required to replace them, so don't know what's involved! Has anyone changed theirs? How hard is it? Thanks. Brian Piece of cake, you just need an extra set of hands to help and a couple of ladders.... I've done two different sets on two different motorhomes and they were easy... PM me if you want details, I might even have pics.

RE: Debunking some myths

Gargoyle, What's an 'accident', don't they call them collisions down there? Up in Washington, I can get anything weighed that I want. And yes, I have seen non-commercial vehicles weighed for serious injury or fatality collisions. Then, since Washington has a "Disregard for Safety of Others" written into the Vehicular Assault and Vehicular Homicide laws, the evidence that the vehicle was past the ratings will be introduced into court. Exactly!!!

RE: Debunking some myths

V you could be correct but I do not think so. Talk to some insurance adjusters and police officers and see how long it has been since they weighed a motor home after an accident. As a police officer with 25+ years of experience, and a person who has investigated hundreds of accidents (more fatal accidents then I care to think about), I can tell you that IF an officer believes that weight has ANYTHING to do with the accident (commercial or not), the vehicle(s) would be weighed. Certified scales are easily accessible in Arizona. Most major cities have them and the State police (DPS) have them available for any agency that doesn't have their own. I can tell you first had about an accident where weight was an issue for a truck towing a trailer that was overweight by 2800 pounds, which caused the hitch to fail and the travel trailer (toy hauler) to become detached from the tow vehicle, crossing left of center into on-coming traffic, causing a fatal accident. Keep one other thing in mind - insurance companies employee their own investigators (ex-police officers) to try and determine CONTRIBUTOR NEGLIGENCE on all large accident claims to minimize the insurance companies exposure. They don't have to "weigh" your truck, trailer, toy hauler, motorhome, whatever at the scene, the can do it at a later date and time... If they can find a way to NOT pay, or limited the amount they pay, they will... It saves them millions every year and your kidding yourself if you think it doesn't happen. Insurance companies don't make millions every year by paying claims.

RE: Debunking some myths

I do not think #3 is legal if a carrier has underwritten the risk but may not renew your coverage or even cancel it after the fact became known. Ratings of most things carry a fudge factor. Can you say contributor negligence? Let your insurance company find out that you were overweight, and the cause of the accident (which WILL be outlined in the police report), and they will deny ANY coverage and your claim. You're left holding the bag and paying the estate of that family of 5 that you just killed. Is it worth it??

RE: Can I put Pine-Sol in the holding tank ?

2manytoyz is correct about using it in the heat, it does produce an overwhelming stench, a pine tree in your toilet... Just use tide and some bleach. That will clean it without all the odors... Then just use tide all the time instead of chemicals, you won't need to "freshen up" your tank every again... http://cbruni.googlepages.com/

RE: "Geo" method?

IMHO, I think the GEO Method is one of the best things out there. I've been using it for 10+ years. Very simple and hassle free... After dumping my black tank I just add a cup or two of tide (with 5 or so gallons of fresh water) and I'm always odor free... I rarely use the water softner.... I would think it must be better for the environment then all those blue packets and/or chemicals...
